December 2009 - The Guild's Christmas Luncheon

The Marquess of Reading Michael Wynne-Parker and HRH Princess Katarina of Yugoslavia
The Guild’s Christmas Luncheon was held at the Royal Air Force Club in London in the presence of HRH Princess Katarina of Yugoslavia, President of The Guild.
The Guest of Honour and Speaker was The Marquess of Reading who spoke about his very recent visit to Afghanistan and the agricultural programme of growing pomegranates instead of the current harvesting of poppies, the timescales involved and support for farmers in the current difficult security and economic climate in the country.
Lord Reading emphasised the beauty of the country and its possible future as a visitor destination for the eco-traveller when the security situation is resolved.
A presentation of an inscribed silver hip flask was made to Michael at the Christmas Luncheon in recognition of his ten years as Guild Chairman. His support for The Guild during this time is greatly appreciated especially as Michael has many other business and social interests in his busy life.
Apart from being an author of numerous books, including We Shall Fly, the recent biography of the late Tony Wadlow MBE, Michael recently established a branch of the English Speaking Union (ESU) in Estonia, is Patron of the St George Foundation in Estonia and a Trustee of the Heart of Russia charity.
